In Kerala, the land of exotic wood - sandalwood, teak, rosewood, mahogony- one can enjoy the delicacy and evocative power of wood carving. This ancient tradition has been handed down over the centuries by craftsmen whose role is midway between priest and architect, as they perform minor rituals and determine auspicious locations for various constructions.

After one week one may have carved a lotus flower, but more importantly come to terms with the spirit of the wood. It calls for a lot of patience and concentration.
