Kolams are ephemeral auspicious designs made on the ground with white or coloured powders. The basic patterns start from rhythmic points of rice flour dotting the ground or following the precise measurements of the hand, foot or forearm of the artist. the dry powders have a distinct vibrating velvet like quality which endows the ground with a new living dimension.

Kolams can be offerings to God, at home, for protection, purification, blessings , yet another way of linking the everyday and the sacred. There are also special Kolams that are associated with temple worship. At our Centre, we occassionally arrange these Kolams, at an extra cost , on special requests.
