PERCUSSION     The centre offers courses on Tabla, Mridangam and Maddalam which are double-skinned horizontal or vertical drums. These drums have been used for centuries to accompany temple rituals, ritual or classical art performances etc. They are also played in purely musical concerts or as a means of emphasizing the actors' steps and gestures in theatrical performances. By the irresistable power of their intricate rhythm , they contribute, almost magically, to the setting and raising of the atmosphere. Tabla,however, is a North Indian percussion instrument.
